The six finalists are:
Hoval
The Hoval CF Biomass Filter is designed to dramatically reduce particulate emissions from biomass boilers. While this does not directly reduce CO 2 emissions, it enables low-carbon biomass technologies to be used in projects where they might not have been acceptable because of air quality concerns. Crucially, the filter can be used with any make of biomass boiler and can be retrofitted to reduce particulate emissions from existing installations, as well as being suitable for use in new installations.
Distech Controls
The Solar EnergyMax solution is a natural ventilation solution using EnOcean wireless technology. The system is powered using a mix of natural ventilation and solar power – a solar PV cell generates the energy needed to control the dual fan system in the module. The Distech wireless controller then allows the system to connect to the sensors and switches located within the building. The system is fully accessible via any existing building management system, reducing the cost of installing a conventional wired controls system.
MAP Limited
Trimble MEP Layout Solution and CADmep+ were introduced to simplify efficient management of MEP/HVAC installations. The layout solution delivers a highly accurate and fast method of marking up installation points for any MEP services onsite by using the actual plan drawings. It is also easily operable by a two-man team, allowing contractors to significantly reduce labour costs and it works seamlessly with CADmep+.
Radio-Tech
Radio-Tech has developed a wireless environmental monitoring system that measures energy efficiency and building performance and is specifically designed to meet standards specified by the Energy Savings Trust (EST). The products have been selected as the primary data collection system for the EST’s solid wall Insulation field trials. They measure building data through a range of wireless sensors positioned throughout a property, monitoring internal and external temperature and humidity, surface temperature, carbon dioxide levels, window and door openings, electricity, gas and water consumption.
Solion Limited
This renewable energy product developer and installer has introduced the SunMount, which enables buildings with flat roofs to benefit from PV without penetrating the roof surface or adding significant ballast to the roof. The product is almost entirely prefabricated, making it very fast and easy to install. It also increases the thermal resistance of the roof and can be used on any size roof, from small, domestic properties through to large industrial buildings.
Datum Phase Change Limited
This entry is a ceiling tile and wall panel systems called RACUS (which stands for reducing air conditioning units & systems). It uses phase change materials to absorb and store latent heat from the workplace during the day, from IT equipment, employees and solar gains. This heat is slowly released during night time cooling, reducing the heating and cooling demand of HVAC systems. RACUS is a passive system that uses zero energy and requires no maintenance for the lifetime of the building.
