The results are very interesting, with 100% of builders saying they think that if they were greener builders they would be seen as better builders, which shows that they don’t view green building techniques as a luxury add-on but as an integral part of quality building work.
Significantly, 62% of the builders that took part in this questionnaire said that their customers are asking them to build using green building techniques. This proves that there is a growing market out there for building professionals who want to offer green building services. This is reinforced by the findings that 61% of the respondents said that their work does already involve green building. In contrast, 33% said their current work hardly ever involves sustainable building.
Hot topics
The top two subjects that builders say they are keen to learn more about are:
- renewable energy technologies, for example solar panels, wind turbines and heat pumps;
- best practice detailing that relates to airtightness and insulation installation.
Low-impact materials, health & well-being of residents (by using products such as natural paints) and indoor air qualityand ventilation are also important topics to the survey respondents, with the areas given least importance being water management and waste management.
