The environmental manual from Construction Industry Publications has been updated to include the following new and revised guidance sections:

Contaminated land
The manual now contains a number of the alternative remedial treatments available for contaminated land.

Timber procurement
An increasing number of construction clients are following the government lead and requiring that all timber and timber product used in the construction process is either obtained new from verifiably legal and sustainable sources or is reused/recycled. The section on timber procurement have been brought up to date and guidance on how to ensure that timber delivered to site from an order for legal and sustainable timber does in fact comply with that order.

Climate change and carbon
With carbon measurement and reduction becoming more important as a differentiator between suppliers of otherwise equal merit for construction projects across the whole range of value, guidance has now been included on the measurement and reporting of Greenhouse Gas Emissions in accordance with internationally accepted voluntary schemes.

Legislation changes
With the period between April and October 2010 including the election and the installation of a new government, it is not a surprise that there has been no new environmental legislation of relevance to construction coming into force in the period.  The Building Regulations 2010, however, came into force on in October and are now laid out with separate Parts 6 and 7 specifying the requirements for energy and water efficiency respectively.

This easily updated, loose-leaf manual, written by environmental professionals working in the construction industry, provides simple, informative guidance on the key environmental issues that face most construction projects and the steps that must be taken to ensure compliance with legal duty. It is designed for site managers and supervisors of main contractors and sub contractors, and will also help project managers, site agents, site foremen and engineers address environmental issues in a practical way.

Copies of the Construction Environmental Manual are available to order from Construction Industry Publications (CIP). The hard copy and CD-Rom cost £140 and the six-monthly updates £27 each. For further information email sales@cip-books.com or visit www.cip-books.com .
