Making green roofs and living walls possible in more locations, VYDRO substrate from Huntsman Polyurethanes now has its own dedicated website.

VYDRO substrate has been designed as a hydrophilic planting medium for green roofs and living walls. Capable of storing up to 30 times its own weight in water, and offering weight savings of up to 70% compared to standard systems, it is proven to function where other materials fail.

With the ability to rehydrate over multiple growing cycles, VYDRO substrate enables the creation of green roofs in locations where they were previously ruled out, including hot, dry climates and properties where weight and structural strength are a critical factor – for example older buildings.

Anthony Dent, global VYDRO business manager, said: “With the world's finite water supplies under severe pressure, there is a need to create new solutions that can help manage water more intelligently. This realization led us to develop VYDRO substrate, a completely new type of lightweight material for growing plants. Outperforming conventional planting materials, it offers unlimited potential to bring the benefits of smart water management to new markets and billions of people worldwide – helping to create a more sustainable future for our planet, people and precious resources.”
