A business park in Surrey is now powered by green energy.

Dunsfold Park’s solar photovoltaic (PV) installation comprises 8,500 ground-mounted panels capable of generating 2 Megawatts (MW) of power - the same amount of energy required to power 670 households.

Power generated during working hours is used by the business park, at other times it is fed back into the National Grid. At peak generation times the estate is powered entirely by solar power while at night the park reverts back to it’s regular energy supplier.

Full-service developer Lightsource Renewable Energy delivered the project along with funding partner Octopus.

A launch event invited  commercial property owners the opportunity to discover how to earn a valuable payback from leasing otherwise unused roof or ground space to generate solar power.

“It’s wonderful. It very much fits in with our sustainable growth agenda,” said Jim McAllister, Chief Executive of Dunsfold Park Limited.

“It’s fantastic that the vast majority of our energy is now provided from a renewable source. Our focus on green technologies that help to reduce the aerodrome’s carbon footprint is coming to fruition.”
