The Property and Energy Professionals Association (PEPA) has urged government to consider a staged introduction of the Green Deal to ensure its long-term success.

In its response to the Green Deal consultation, PEPA has raised a number of concerns relating to current plans for non-domestic buildings and, as a result, is urging the government to consider a staged introduction of this new framework.

The organisation believes that plans for domestic buildings under the Green Deal are well advanced, but there are still a number of unanswered questions and unresolved issues with respect to implementing the Green Deal for non-domestic buildings. Rather than delay or jeopardise the entire introduction of this new framework, it has suggested the policy be introduced in stages, with domestic Green Deal leading the way.

Chairman Stephen O’Hara said: “This approach will allow homeowners to begin benefiting from the new framework as soon as possible, while allowing the government more time to ensure that plans for non-domestic homes are robust, before they are introduced.”
