Water conservation will be addressed at the House of Commons today during the National Home Improvement Council’s parliamentary lunch. Tony Rheinberg, marketing manager at Ideal Standard will emphasise the importance of decreasing water use and highlight the UK’s careless approach to the natural resource.
He will say: “43% [of those surveyed] estimated they use only 39 litres or less of water a day when in reality its closer to four times that amount.
"Approximately 63% of domestic water consumed in the UK used in the bathroom of which 21% is used in bathing and washing, 12% is used in the shower and a massive 30% is flushed down the toilet.
The amount of water we use increases when we wash and bathe in older, less efficient bathrooms. We are consuming more water than we ever used to, however this could largely be reduced if we altered our habits and installed more efficient products."
"During the seven minutes taken to deliver this [full] speech, Britain will have flushed another 1.5 million toilets, sluiced 24,000 urinals and run 2,000,000 taps, totalling 47,000,000 litres of water."
