The Supply Chain Sustainability School aims to help suppliers and sub-contractors to better their knowledge and practice of sustainability through an online portal.

The virtual learning environment is the brainchild of Skanska with additional support from Kier, Lend Lease, Morgan Sindall, Willmott Dixon, Aggregate Industries and Sir Robert McAlpine.

The companies are trialling the project with their supply chains but it is open to any supplier in the construction industry. The scheme is being delivered by Action Sustainability to ensure confidentiality and impartiality.

Once registered, a self-assessment will display users’ strengths and weaknesses and give a prioritised plan as well as a rage of free tools, e-learning and training.

The Supply Chain Sustainability School states: “While the construction industry has taken several steps forward in addressing key environmental and social sustainability challenges, our customers are increasingly demanding more sustainable practices. This, coupled with current and forthcoming legislation, is driving the market for a greener, more sustainable construction sector.”

Videos on climate change, biodiversity and self-assessment from the perspective of the partners are available online.

The school is providing a number of local supplier days nationwide this autumn and winter, click here for further information.
